Parliament Watch shows you what your MP is doing. This page explains what happens with the small amount of data we collect to make that work. The short version: we don't need much, and we don't sell any of it.
What we collect
Your postcode, once, when you first open the app. We send it to postcodes.io to look up your constituency, get the MP back, and throw the postcode away. It's never saved.
Your topic choices. The topics you tick during setup (NHS, housing, climate, and so on) get saved on your phone and on our server. They tell us which parts of your MP's work to focus on in your morning summary. Change them whenever you want in Settings.
Which MP you follow. Saved on your phone and on our server.
A random device ID. Generated the first time you open the app. It's how we know which phone to send your morning summary to. There's no name or email attached to it.
We don't collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, photos, or anything about what you do outside the app.
What we don't do
There are no ads in the app, and we don't sell data to anyone. We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising tracker. We don't build profiles for marketing, ask you to create an account, or email you anything you didn't sign up for.
Where the data sits
Your data lives in a MongoDB database hosted in the EU. The backend is built with FastAPI and follows UK GDPR requirements.
The plain-English summaries you read in the app are drafted using Anthropic's Claude API and reviewed by a human (me, Tobi) before they go out. None of your personal data goes to Anthropic. The summaries are about your MP's public parliamentary work, not about you.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can:
- Ask what data we hold on you. Email privacy@parliamentwatch.uk.
- Delete everything. You can do this yourself in Settings by tapping "Forget this device", or email me and I'll do it.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you think we've handled your data badly.
Children
The app is rated 12+. If you're a parent and you think your child under 13 has used it, email privacy@parliamentwatch.uk and I'll remove their data.
Changes
If I change anything important about how data is handled, you'll see a notice in the app before it takes effect.
Who runs Parliament Watch
Me. I'm Tobi Ogunmoyero, an independent developer in Newcastle upon Tyne. Parliament Watch is a personal project, not an official Parliament service.
